Teacher Silvia from Santa María Tlahuitoltepec makes each of these clay pieces by hand, from start to finish. Use the resources that are close to your community, and ancestral techniques.

In 1999 she was awarded 1st Place in the National Presidential Prize for Ceramics in San Pedro Tlaquepaque, Jalisco.

Product: Pumpkin-shaped vase
Color: Mixe Mud, Polished Natural.

Approximate measurements:

  • Height 16cm
  • Diameter from handle to handle 20 cm
  • Mouth diameter 10 cm.

Material: Natural clay/ceramic
Technique: Hand molded, dried in shade and sun, and fired with firewood.
Origin: Santa Ma. Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca.

Take this into account: The ceramics fired with the ancestral techniques of this community are fired in wood-burning ovens, which can give dark tones to some parts of the cup, as well as generate small cracks that do not affect the functionality of the object. These elements are part of the characteristics of this type of craftsmanship, as well as part of its history and charm.
